Our Team & What Drives Our Work

We are a young interdisciplinary research group at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology dedicated to advancing the next generation of healthcare technologies by developing diagnostics, therapeutics, and AI-driven automation. Our research connects engineering, materials science, and data science to address challenges in accessibility, affordability, and patient adherence.

Our core research areas include:

Biosensors: Developing innovative and low-cost sensing platforms for early disease detection.

Drug delivery systems: Engineering stimuli-responsive formulations using bioinspired materials to enable controlled, sustained, and user-friendly therapeutic administration for various disease treatments.

Self-driving labs: Designing autonomous experimental platforms that integrate robotic systems with at-line/in-line analytics and AI-based decision-making for reproducible, high-throughput material synthesis and their application in biomedical technologies.

Machine learning & AI: Leveraging data-driven models for process optimization, predictive formulation design, and autonomous material production/technology development.

We strive to develop scalable, patient-centered solutions for various healthcare-related challenges, providing the community with high-performing tools that improve accessibility and reduce healthcare disparities across diverse resource settings.

We develop advanced, personalized drug delivery systems for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) that harness low-cost natural bioactives to address the chronic disease burden and improve treatment accessibility, especially for women who are disproportionately affected by RRMS.
